Core Leadership

Sandra M Garraway, PhD

Scientific Director

smgarraway@emory.edu

Sandra M. Garraway, Ph.D. joined the faculty at Emory University School of Medicine in 2013. She is a member of the Department of Physiology and the Neuroscience Graduate Program. Her laboratory research focuses primarily on the neural mechanisms that lead to neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury (SCI), and secondarily, on systemic pathologies associated with SCI. The laboratory employs various techniques which include molecular and cellular assays, electrophysiology and behavior in rodent models to address fundamental mechanistic questions. The overall long-term goal of her research is to provide insight that can propel the development of better therapeutic strategies for the alleviation of pain and improve rehabilitative practices for SCI patients.

Jianjun Chang, M.S.

Core Director

jchan47@emory.edu

Jianjun Chang, M.S. is Research Technical Specialist in the Department of Physiology. He joined the Department of Physiology in 2009 as a research specialist in Dr. Sandra Garraways’s lab. His research history includes an investigation of immune profiles of gut inflammation in Parkinson’s Disease, the effect of TNF inhibitor on brain immune cell profiles in models of Alzheimer’s Disease, and mechanisms that regulate microglia activation and their impact on neuronal survival in vitro and in vivo. Thus, he is a contributing author on several peer-reviewed research articles. Jianjun is well-trained in cellular and molecular assays, and has served as the EMIC technical director since 2015.
