Facilities and Equipment

The BSL3 laboratories (250 sqft each) are fully equipped for conducting in vitro studies involving Risk Group 3 pathogens and are independently connected to an adjoining in vivo/ABSL3 room. Each laboratory contains three lab benches, two 6-foot Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinets, two CO2 incubators, and cold storage capacity including -86°C and -20°C freezer, as well as +4°C refrigeration. The suites are also fully outfitted for cell culture and other in vitro applications.

The ABSL3 laboratories (200 sqft each) are fully equipped to perform in vivo studies involving Risk Group 3 pathogens in a variety of animal models. These labs are independently connected to an adjoining in vitro/BSL3 room. Each laboratory contains two 6-foot Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinets, biocontainment cages and racks suitable for small animals.

The single cells Omics and molecular biology suite is designed for single cell and spatial transcriptomic sample preparation. It is furnished with one 4-foot biosafety cabinet and lab benches. The room is equipped with a fluorescence cell counter, an Ultra centrifuge, one lyophilization unit, PCR instrument, and a 10X Genomics Chromium system.

The flow cytometry and sorting laboratory is designed for cutting edge immunobiology experiments. It is furnished with one 4-foot BSC. The laboratory is equipped with one 4-foot Class II Type A2 type BD Biosafety Cabinet containing a state-of the-art BD FACSDiscover™ S8 Cell Sorter and cell viewer.

BD FACSDiscover™ S8 Cell Sorter and cell viewer: The BD FACSDiscover™ S8 Cell Sorter combines advanced spectral flow cytometry with the novel BD CellView™ Image Technology, which captures images of individual cells flowing through the system and sorts them based on detailed microscopic image analysis of each one at high sort speeds. This cell sorter combines advanced spectral flow cytometry with sort-capable image analysis. This combination enables accurate insights on cell populations and characteristics that can be visually confirmed in real time.

In collaboration with the Emory Flow Cytometry Core (EFCC).

Used for high-throughput imaging procedures and cell culture assays. It is equipped with a 4-foot two Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet and houses an Agilent BioTek 406 EX washer and dispenser system, a Cytation 7 Cell Imaging Multimode Plate Reader (allowing ELISPot and fluorescence microscopy), and a Cytation 10 Confocal Imaging Reader allowing high-throughput analyses of cell culture plates of different formats.

Designed for histopathology work including biopsy processing, block preparation, and tissue sectioning. The room is equipped with a 4-foot two Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet, an NX70 cryostat to prepare frozen sections and all necessary instruments.

Designed for performing necropsies and tissue dissections for downstream processing analyses. It is equipped with a 4-foot Class II Type A2 biosafety cabinet, a dissection table and a whole-body plethysmography system.
