Hamilton Sample Storage

The fully automated Hamilton BiOS M7 -80 degrees Celsius biorepository freezer provides unique services to Emory clinical and basic researchers. The Hamilton BIOS M7 unit has been configured to hold over 3 million samples using the Hamilton selected tube size of 0.6mL and 2.0mL using high density rack ware. Please contact EIBC's Core Director Dr. Hossain at mshossa@emory.edu to inquire about storing your samples. If interested in touring the facility and learning about the Hamilton BiOS, please email Dr. Mohammad Sohrab Hossain [mshossa@emory.edu] to schedule a time for the tour. For further information about our services, please see our flyer by clicking the button below.

Live-cell storage (Liquid Nitrogen)

The EIBC recently opened a new service line to store live cells in liquid nitrogen (LN2)! In contrast to storage of materials such as DNA, proteins, bacteria, cell pellets, and processed samples, which can be stored in the EIBC’s -80ºC Hamilton freezer, live cellular samples require liquid nitrogen (LN2) cryogenic preservation (-175 ºC). The EIBC currently has capacity to store 6000 tubes in a large LN2 Dewar.

Live-Cell Storage (LN2)

Please use the following procedures for the Live-Cell Storage (LN2) service:

  1. Users need an active OpenSpecimen account to use the EIBC LIMS process to store samples in the LN2 storage facility.
  2. To create an OpenSpecimen account, please contact Sharon Mason, Sr Manager, Information Technology OIT: Lab Informatics (LIMS) (email: mason@emory.edu; Tel: 404-290-2387).
  3. As needed, Mason’s team can provide guidance for using the EIBC LIMS process to store samples in the LN2 storage facility.

Users will be charged through PPMS - please see the LN2 Rates section below for pricing (handling and storage).
