Core Leadership

Nicholas Boulis, MD (Professor of Neurosurgery)

Scientific Director


Dr. Boulis is a neurosurgeon-scientist who has conducted basic, translational, and clinical neuroscience research over the past 30 years and is the Principal Investigator of the Gene and Cell Therapy for Neurorestoration Laboratory at Emory University.  His research focus on creating surgical techniques and therapeutics delivery strategies for diseases affecting brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.

Boulis Lab

Thais (Federici) Buchman, PhD (Academic Research Scientist)

Core Director


Dr. Buchman is a scientist with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and a background in Neurosciences, as well as Gene and Cell Therapy.  From pilot experiments to GLP studies, Dr. Buchman has been managing projects involving preclinical animal research for over fifteen years.  She is currently the leader of the Translational Large Animal Research team in Dr. Boulis’ laboratory.
