Animal Care Technicians

Animal Care Technician I

Performs routine duties associated with animal care in a research setting. Prepares food and feeds animals, maintains sanitary conditions, observes animal conditions and behavior, and collects animal specimens. May assist in animal restraint, maintaining animal housing, and minor cage maintenance. Performs minor repairs and maintains the animal housing facility. May train new technicians. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). One year of animal husbandry or related animal care experience and ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

Animal Care Technician II

Performs routine and specialized duties associated with animal care including feeding, cleaning, restraining, and transporting. Observes animal conditions, collects specimens, and provides technical assistance to research and veterinary personnel. Performs minor repairs and maintains the animal housing facility. May train new technicians. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), three years of animal husbandry or related animal care experience, and the ability to lift 75 pounds. May require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record. May also require three years of transportation and routing experience in lieu of animal husbandry/care experience. Salary commensurate with experience.

Veterinary Technicians

Veterinary Technician I

Under direct to general supervision, assists veterinarians and researchers in anesthesia, surgery, post-operative care, radiology, animal care and treatments. Observes animals and reports abnormalities, sickness, and injury. May assist in diagnostic and preventative procedures or treatment of the animal. Maintains medical records and assists with inventory. May assist in training new veterinary and/or animal care technicians. Performs related responsibilities as required. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take special precautions against and/or be immunized against hazardous agents.

Veterinary Technician II

Under general supervision, assists veterinarians and researchers in anesthesia, surgery, post-operative care, radiology, animal care and treatments. Observes animals and reports abnormalities, sickness, and injury. May assist in diagnostic and preventative procedures or treatment of the animal. May assist in colony management. May assist in data collection or reporting. May assist in training new veterinary and/or animal care technicians. Maintains medical records and inventory. May assist in capture or restraint of animal. Performs related responsibilities as required. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take special precautions against and/or be immunized against hazardous agents.

Veterinary Technician III

Under minimal supervision, assists veterinarians and researchers in anesthesia, surgery, post-operative care, radiology, animal care and treatments. Observes animals and reports abnormalities, sickness, and injury. Assists in diagnostic, preventative and research procedures. Under minimal supervision, may perform minor surgical procedures or other minor invasive procedures. Assists in colony management. May assist in data collection or reporting for designated aspects of research, animal care programs, or colony management. May participate in integrated program of animal environmental enrichment. Maintains animal records and inventory. Assists in capture and restraint of animals. Aids in training new veterinary and/or animal care technicians. Performs related responsibilities as required.
