Euthanasia Training
CO2 Euthanasia Training
DAR is offering regularly scheduled CO2 Euthanasia Training sessions to research staff and investigators needing IACUC required CO2 training. CO2 training covers background on the reasons why a low CO2 flow rate is required by the AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals, proper euthanasia techniques using the flowmeters and discussions of alternatives to using CO2 alone for euthanasia.
CO2 training is provided on the first and third Monday of every month in the Whitehead Biomedical Research Building. To sign up, please enroll via ELMS (elmprod9.emory.edu) using course code 265004. For details on how to register, please see the Investigator Training Opportunities page.
Euthanasia Assessments
DAR performs IACUC required euthanasia assessments for research staff and investigators on an ad hoc basis.
Euthanasia assessments must be completed by all personnel performing a physical method of euthanasia on conscious animals or those sedated with isoflurane via the open-drop method. Assessment will verify that personnel are competent in the euthanasia techniques listed in their approved protocol.
Training in any of these techniques is also available prior to assessment sessions.
For more information or to schedule euthanasia training or assessment, please contact the Training Department at: dartrn@emory.edu.
