Data Hosting and Processing Services

A state-of-the-art mini cluster platform is provided to our users and collaborators for data hosting and processing.

Medical imaging services generate gigabytes of imaging data per hour for each subjects.  Due to the significant difference among individuals, modern medical imaging researches often involve large subject pool and/or longitudinal researches that follow up a patient for years.  It is common for a well-established project to accumulate terabyte scale of data spanning 3-6 years.  CSIC hosts several tens of such projects simultaneously.  This accumulates tens of terabytes original data per year.

Meanwhile, due to the physics complexity, there is usually no straight forward relationship between imaging contrasts and the underlying biomedical realities.  It usually has to go through sophisticated data processing progress to extract focused information from background norm, noise, and individual variations.  Such progress can well take a top configuration desktop or laptop computer days for each data set from a single session for a single subject, and may go way beyond the RAM and storage capacity of such computers for group analysis.

CSIC operates a computer cluster for hosting several tens of terabytes MRI data collected from all CSIC managed MRI scanners, the MRI scanner operated by FERN, and PET data from the CSIC HRRT PET scanner.  It also hosts data processing for our collaborating teams with not only data generated from the above listed facilities, but also data acquired by Emory YERKES Primate Center, and imported data by collaborating projects from 10+ sites nationwide.

This system hosts many major medical imaging data processing software developed by the medical imaging research society.  For a detailed list, please visit the corresponding resource page.
