Purchasing Drugs
The Division of Animal Resources is not permitted to sell prescription drugs. Drugs can be obtained through Emory's Procurement Department. Roger Knight (rkinght@emory.edu) and Hilary Rosenthal (hrosent@emory.edu) can assist with the process of placing orders through the Procurement Department. Kristin West in the Office of Research Compliance (404.727.2398 or orc@emory.edu) can provide assistance in navigating the federal and/or state application processes required to purchase drugs. The ORC has provided an FAQ to answer some of the more common questions on this topic. Details on the requirements for purchasing, storing and using controlled drugs can be found in Emory Policy 7.25 :Research Use of Controlled Substances Controlled Substances.
To meet the needs of investigators who do not have the required registrations, the Division of Animal Resources can provide anesthesia and euthanasia services on a fee-for-service basis. Researchers can request this technical assistance through the DAR website ( Vet Tech Assist Form). Isoflurane can be provided for a fee within DAR managed rodent surgery rooms (contact dartrn@emory.edu). Additionally, the DAR veterinarians can offer guidance regarding drug choices and can be reached by calling 404.727.3248 or emailing (darcust@emory.edu).
