Purchasing Drugs

The Division of Animal Resources (DAR) is not permitted to sell prescription drugs. All Principal Investigators (PIs) using Controlled Substances and/or Dangerous Drugs in research must obtain the appropriate licenses from federal and/or state authorities. The Research Controlled Drug Compliance (RCDC) Program (rcdc@emory.edu) is available to assist investigators with securing the necessary license(s) required to purchase drugs. Once licensed, investigators may obtain drugs by issuing a purchase request via Emory Express. Ordering support is available by contacting sourcingandprocurement@emory.edu. Additional information regarding the purchase, storage, and use of controlled drugs is outlined in Emory Policy 7.25.

For investigators who have applied for the required license(s) but have not yet been licensed, DAR can provide anesthesia and euthanasia services on a fee-for-service basis. Technical assistance requests may be submitted through a DAR Veterinary Technician Assistance Request (Veterinary Technician Assistance Request Form). Isoflurane is available for a fee in DAR-managed rodent surgery rooms (contact dartrn@emory.edu). DAR veterinarians are also available to provide guidance on drug selection and can be reached at 404.727.3248 or via email at darcust@emory.edu.
