PET-MRI services for Human Research
A GE SIGNA PET/MRI system is joint managed by The Emory Clinic (WC) and CSIC for shared clinical and research study use.
Emory purchased a PET/MR system from GE Healthcare (first PET/MR system in Georgia) using funding provided by a NIH S10 large instrumentation grant awarded to Hui Mao, PhD (Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences) and supplemented with Emory Healthcare (EHC) funds. The scanner is located in a translational area within the Emory Clinic (building C - Winship) and supports both research studies and clinical use via a Shared Use Agreement between EHC and Center for Systems Imaging Core (CSIC). Research studies that onboard to utilize CSIC core imaging services are scheduled during dedicated research allotted time on this scanner with those research scans being completed by the PET/MR-WC EHC imaging technologists. The shared use agreement for this system represents the cooperative sharing of expertise and equipment between the research and clinical missions of Emory.
This system is a GE SIGNA PET/MR 3.0T system with Quantworks and features a simultaneous time of flight (TOF) PET imaging with whole body 3.0T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in a 60 cm bore. The PET system's time resolution is less than 400 pica-second with a coincidence window of 4.57 nano-second. Its resolution is 3.7-4.2mm in plane and 4.8-7.1mm in the axial direction. The MR system is a 3.0 Tesla GE SIGNA 750W with gradients capable of a Peak Amplitude 44 mT/m and a Peak Slew Rate 200 T/m/s. Main field homogeneity is <0.500 ppm over 40 cm FOV. The system comes with a number of coils including spine coil, body array coils and Transmit/Receive head coils. The software suite includes advanced Neuro, body, oncology and orthopedic, cardiovascular, and pediatric packages and includes multi-nuclear spectroscopy.
